Recipes

apologies . . .

for being absent from the blogworld.

I think my brain is affected by the heat.

32 C today.

This is hard on northern blood.

Thankfully we  had a bumper strawberry crop down the road at Penny’s Strawberry Farm. We made  bottles of old-fashioned cooked jam and containers of crushed berries for ice cream. We also froze individual berries on cookie sheets and then bagged them.

Just perfect for these!

I’ve been experimenting with combinations of
frozen strawberries, bananas,  yogurt, ice cubes and Sprite.

So refreshing on a hot day!

What’s your favorite smoothie recipe?

  1. Sympathies from over 100 degree California, Kathie. Ugh. Come on FALL!!My smoothie favorite is frozen mango, frozen strawbs., a little green plant juice for healthiness, and some water. Sometimes when the fruit isn’t abundant I will add less fruit and a bunch of ice — still refreshing.I love smoothies.I’ll be back to blogging soon. Just had to have some quiet for a bit.Enjoy a cool swim for me, okay?Diane

  3. I’ll try adding the pineapple Suzanne – that sounds good. I even added diet pepsi once – when i was out of spirte – and it wasn’t bad either. I’ve heard that Ab is hot – the boys were playing in Calgary and they said it was hot, dry and dusty. we’ve been having thunderstorms and unusual lightning for the past few days. missm freezing at 16? that’s pretty balmy for us – like a nice spring day. our neighbour’s daughter is in Perth and she said that it is cool – she’s wearing sweaters.Ellen – glad you like Little White Horse – it’s coming out in a movie. I think they are going to call it The Moon Princess.

  5. Yummy. Vanilla yogurt, orange juice, banana, strawberry and pineapple. Never thought to put sprite in them. You’ve got my mouth watering. It is hot, hot, hot here too! Mid 30’s for weeks now. Southern AB is so dry is is an absolute fire ban everywhere. They say it’s drier now than when a few years back the Crow’s Nest Pass had uncontrolled fire burning for almost a month. Scary.

  6. Oh my, you do have it hot! We’ve been making smoothies with frozen blueberries lately. That’s because we have stashed away too many and are trying to lighten our freezer before our move. 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup yogurt, and a little sugar or sweetener whirled in a mini-food processor makes a tangy, spoonable smoothie. One could add a little water if it’s too thick.
