100 years

of Anne!

2008 marks the one hundredth anniversary of the publication of Anne Of Green Gables

There are a number of special events planned for this year in honour of the occasion.

I’m celebrating the anniversary by re-reading Anne but this time I’m reading The Annotated version.

It will be a slow and leisurely read – the book is packed with illustrations, photographs, drawings, explanatory notes on literary and Biblical references, poems, songs, essays on Island life, geography, plants, biographical information, original reviews and even recipes!

I’m going to savour every word.

I have a whole year to celebrate!

Last year I was going to re-read all the Anne books but only got as far as Anne of Avonlea. I was also going to read as many of the other LMM books as I could fit in. I wanted to immerse myself in the work of one author. Time got away from me and I didn’t get very far. :(Just this past weekend I bought 4 more LMM books from my wish list on Amazon. Some are hard to find, or way out of my budget. Wouldn’t it be great if they re-published all of her books for the anniversary?

  2. 100 years. I had no idea it was so long ago. I’ve read all of the Anne books. Maybe I’ll start over now. They were wonderful. Several of the books can be downloaded from the internet at no cost. That’s how I read the last 2 books. We went to the house of Green Gables about 5 years ago. I was thrilled to see it.Thanks for the info.

  3. My daughter is reading through this series now… the same exact books I had a girl. She will be thrilled to hear this is the 100th anniversary. I wish there was some kind of event or club going on around my home in North Carolina!

Rachel Anne – read the book – you’ll love it. It really is the "sweetest childhood story ever told" plus it’s LOL funny. and she waxes eloquently about my favourite place in the whole world.I love Kevin Sullivan’s first movie of Anne with Megan Follows but not the sequels – they don’t have much to do with the books especially the third one. I won’t even watch it (in protest :)Ellen – you haven’t read Anne or the annotated Anne? If you haven’t read Anne get ready to enjoy yourself. Along with all the other LMM books

Susanne – It’s expensive to buy but lovely to own – especially if you are a LMM fan. Thanks Nancy – I think I had it on cloudy for the walk pictures and auto for the sunlit pictures. I’m just learning how to use it. I’m trying to keep track of what settings I use in my Project 366 notes (on the sidebar)
