It may be snowing

outside my window but inside spring has sprung!

I was inordinately excited about these little green shoots  in my new indoor herb garden. There is something magic about planting a tiny  seed into the dark soil and then watching the first seedlings appear. I’m looking forward to snipping fresh herbs and adding them to my culinary concoctions.

But I’ve run into a problem. I’ve never grown herbs  before. And in my enthusiasm, I dampened the potting soil, poked the little seeds down with my finger, patted the soil on top and forgot to put the herb signs in with their perspective herbs as I was planting.

Well … I actually thought that I would remember the order in which I planted them.

Apparently not.

So I am in need of your help

I mean

We’re going to play a game –Name That Herb!

I’ve numbered the unknown herbs 1-4.

Here are the seed names. You’ll notice there are five signs – I don’t know what happened to one of the herbs. I’m sure I planted 5 different seeds … oh well!

C’mon, play along!

And I’ll invite the winner over for spaghetti with spicy oregano or maybe cheese omelet with fragrant chives or perhaps roast chicken with fresh cilantro and lime.

Who knows what we’ll be eating if you don’t play!

*grin*

  1. I agree with Miss M and Kim from H who said it’s a bit early to tell. But one thing might give you a clue. If you squeeze or rub the leaves between your fingers and sniff, you’ll probably be able to tell by the scent – later if not sooner. Most herbs have their characteristic scent early on.

  2. Hmmm. I think it’s a little early to tell, too. I’ll show Hannah this post in the morning and see if she can tell. She’s our experienced gardener.
