This was the picture on the front page of The Guardian – our island newspaper –
with the headline: “Rain comes down in buckets”
It was like a solid sheet of rain and the accompanying thunder and lightning were impressive.
What’s a beachy girl to do in when the weather is so uncooperative?
When I was little girl, I would get my bathing suit on and run around in the yard.
I’d even put my head under the drain spout to get the full swimming effect. 🙂
I don’t know how that would go over in the community if I did it now …
So instead, I have a few indoor projects to tackle.
Last week I cleaned and organized my freezer – a good job done.
This is the latest task.
I have photo albums. And I had a great system for organizing them.
Every time I was expecting a new little one for our family, I knew that there would be lots of pictures.
So I always made sure that the photo albums were updated – everything neat and orderly – ready for the new baby and all the new pictures. It worked perfectly.
As long as the babies kept coming…
I managed to haphazardly put some photo albums together but without the new baby inspiration I was falling drastically behind. I had to come up with another plan. So I bought a box and put all the photos in the box
and there it sat under my bed – in one place but very unorganized.
Then along came digital cameras and photography organization suddenly became a lot easier.
But I still had the box under the bed. Pictures, cards, awards, keepsakes all jumbled together. I could never find the picture I wanted when I wanted it.
So I decided to do something about it. I bought these pretty photo boxes from Winners with the nifty index card dividers
but that’s as far as I got.
The pictures and the boxes have been sitting on my dining room table for a month and a half.
I had a problem.
You could call it picture project paralysis.
- i couldn’t decide how to organize them – by child? by date? by occasion? by season?
- I’ve already mentioned how melancholy I get looking at old pictures
- add the rain – the buckets of rain – soggy, sopping, soaking rain.
- plus dh and kids would drop in and “help” – “Look at this!” “Do you remember that?” “Wasn’t I cute” which effectively undid any type of order I was trying to achieve.
- it was all a little overwhelming
Until yesterday …
I finally bit the bullet and tackled it head-on.
I had an impetus (no, not a new baby – not even a grandchild -yet 🙂
It’s this basket.
a new project – inspired by
A 10 cent sale – yes 10 cents! sale at Michaels – stickers, ribbons, cute little tins to store things, pretty papers – oh it was perfect!! Plus some old magazines, new markers, glue and a sketch pad.
But – I promised myself that I wouldn’t tackle something new until I finished the current project.
Aren’t you proud of me?
I am – inordinately, I’m afraid.
This isn’t an elaborate scrapbooking project – the operative word is simple: to-do lists, weather reports, little sketches, recipes, pictures from old magazines, everyday events.
I’d love if you have any ideas or links – thanks!!

Hooray hooray hooray! It’s enough to make this beach girl’s heart sing.
I better get cracking on that picture project.
Have a wonderful day my friends!
