Jan thaw

There are two seasonal diversions that can ease the bite of winter

One is the January thaw.

The other is the seed catalogues. ~ Hal Borland

It’s wild, wet and windy here on the Island. Our power has flickered and gone out several times.

The snow is “taking a beating” as they say around here.

The grass is appearing – surprisingly green.

Experience tells me it won’t last long.

But, just like the spring bulb catalogue, it’s a promise of things to come.

Happy Tuesday!

  1. If they ever stop publishing bulb catalogs, we’re all going to have to start going south for the winter. Little do they know how much of our winter sanity hinges on their efforts! 🙂 Just kidding. I’m a winter-lover, through and through, bulb catalogs or no. But I do enjoy them. And so did my mother before me, and her mother before her, and her mother…

  2. With our variable weather here (i.e., sunshine and 70F every so often on a January day), those catalogs are like the kiss of death for my budget. Good thing I’m too busy to look at them! Enjoy your little thaw and little bits of green.

  4. We’re having a thaw down here in NH. It’s a nice reprieve but we know it won’t last. The chickens are happy they can run about and even do a little scratching in the earth, but most of the yard is still covered in a blanket of white. Our Seed Savers Exchange catalogue arrived and we are ogling the beautiful photos and dreaming of possibilities and spring. One more month until indoor planting!

Enjoy Kathie. We had the rain yesterday … and high 50’s temps. It felt like spring – so nice. I’ve enjoyed reading Ps. 139 :>). Love you
