Christmas decorations are packed away. Oldest is gone back to his darling wife in London. Youngest is back in school. December is one bright and happy blur of memories.

January stretches ahead ~ no birthdays, no holidays, no busy plans.

Quiet and still like snow-covered hills.

Time to find some good books to curl up with.

Did you get any for Christmas?

I got a huge gift card to the Christian bookstore. I’ve already made one trip and purchased a couple of books and am trying to be a good girl and make it last as long as I can into the year. I’m being very picky but it’s very tempting to spend it all in one shot.

Just want to say that I love your blog! We have been in PEI twice, and felt very blessed and comfortable there. We hated to leave!

My Christmas book was "One Thousand Gifts" by Ann Voscamp. A very challenging book! Bless you!

Those berries make for the perfect backdrop! Good shot!

I didn’t receive any books for Christmas (which is unusual come to think of it!) but I bought myself two (a rare splurge). Books #4 and 5 in the Alexander McCall Smith series, "44 Scotland Street." Delightful reads!

Hi Kim, The background does look like berries but they’re really tiny apples on our flowering crab tree. We had a lot this year. They’re pretty background for my bird shots, particularly on a sunny day.

I really like Alexander McCall Smith too especially the first few in the The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series.

    Hi Kathi,

I feel like I’m updated on your blog once again. I’ve lost it while you were out and about changing your template. I love your new template…full of beauty and simplistic. Have a great New Year with all your loved ones.

      Thanks Marg!

Lovely shots of happy finches! I don’t usually get books for Christmas but I did pick up two from the library that I’m looking forward to starting. Enjoy your curling up time 🙂

believe it or not this was the first Xmas that I only received ONE book! (I usually get about 4-5). My youngest daughter bought me, with her own money and a surprise to me, a hiking book for the trails in Vermont. BUT..I just read several good books in the last couple of months. I highly recommend Shelter (book review is up on my blog and I have a label for Book Reviews). It is set in British Columbia. I also just finished Grace by Max Lucado which was EXCELLENT. In fact, every book i’ve read in the last few weeks have been very good. My daughter is starting Les Miserables which I read years ago and LOVED. My husband and I just saw the movie this past weekend and it was just like the book…..we were very pleased.

      Hi Faith

I haven’t seen Les Miserables yet but I hope to go in the next few weeks. I’ve heard great reviews! I’m going to check if Shelter is in our library system. Thanks!
