Friday's Favourites

fff ~ hello!

It’s been a while since I joined Susanne and friends for Friday’s Fave Five and I’m glad to be back. Some very special events have happened over the last while and I couldn’t miss documenting them. Plus, I miss you!

I captured the beautiful dayspring on Easter morning  – perfect timing as I headed over to our sunrise service.

“Through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; to give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death” (Luke 1:78, 79, NKJV)

2. Easter was a double blessing this year because it fell on my birthday. I don’t ever remember Easter as early as March 31st. We had a wonderful celebration and the kids cooked a delicious Easter/birthday feast for me. My sister Deb sent a lovely bouquet of tulips.  I received birthday roses and a gorgeous orchid plant (my first!)  so the house is filled with spring-time blooms. I love the bright colours and freshness flowers bring into the home.

When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other.

3. I was so happy to find these wavy glass flower vases on sale for 94 cents each – what a buy!  And exactly what I had been searching for. They’re tall and narrow and prevent the dreaded tulip droop 🙂

4. Speaking of great buys, I stumbled into the library book sale last week – a dangerous place for a bibliophile 🙂 Thankfully, the prices were terrific – a dollar for hardcovers and 50 cents for paperbacks. Such fun browsing over the tables piled high with books.  I was thrilled to discover these titles!

5. and now for my final favourite – which includes two special birthdays celebrated over the last two weeks. Our youngest son, James, celebrated his 25th birthday and our granddaughter, Josie, had her very first birthday!

Here they are on James’ birthday – Josie is looking at herself on James’ phone – a favourite past-time. 🙂 A week later the whole clan from both sides gathered to celebrate Josie’s special day.

Well . . . I’m so glad to be back the FFF swing of things. I plan to make the FFF rounds over the weekend. Our weather sounds like I may have lots of time to spend online . . .

Severe weather warnings or watches in effect for PEI.

My poor little crocus . . .

Thanks so much for coming by!

with love,

The tulips are SO pretty! I recently bought a stash at a library book sale as well, you can never have too many books!

Love those wavy vases — and so nice that they nest for grouping your gorgeous tulips 🙂 Your books made me smile. I have the Edwardian Lady book and love the illustrations. How great is it that you have that darling Josie so close by!

  3. So many birthdays! Happy birthday to each and everyone of you! I can’t believe that precious babe is already one years old.

Your tulips are lovely. They are my very favorite flower and I love the idea of those vases.

It’s our library’s spring sale this weekend but I’m avoiding it. I must be firm with myself until I get through the 50+ books that are already overflowing in my closet and in a box under my bed. The trouble is they have a little corner where they sell books all year long. And this little corner is not really a corner but a passageway that connects one section of the library to the other that can’t be avoided so I get caught in there constantly and usually walk away with at least one (or two or three).

  4. A really good way to stop tulip droop is to place pennies in the vase with the tulips. I don’t know why this works, but it is a trick my mom taught me while working in our flower shop.

  5. Kathie, so very glad that you are back!!! Missed you! Can you believe that Josie is 1-year old?! Amazing! Where did that year go? She’s a cutie. Love the vases, too!!! I wish I could find some – perfect! The tulips are lovely, even with the droop. 🙂 Belated Happy Birthday to you! I have it marked in my address book now for next year. 🙂

So glad you are back, Kathie! Happy belated birthday to you, your son and your granddaughter.

I love the Easter sunrise photo!

I love fresh flowers in the house … although I don’t often buy them. Perhaps I should start … I have a real hunger for spring flowers right now! Love all the photos of your tulips!

  8. I’m glad you are back…sometimes there are just so many wonderful things and it’s hard to keep up plus trying to blog at the same time.I loved your FFF…Looks like birthday Mania at your place during this season. Josie is just a dear….

An Easter birthday is a double blessing! Josie will likely have a few, as I do and Luke and his other grandmother will. Didn’t that first year go by fast?

  10. Happy Birthday to you , your son and Josie! You had a lot of celebrating to do! Love your Easter sunrise photo. How perfect was that?! Love the vases. I saw them somewhere and can’t remember, but, I should have bought them! I hope the storm isn’t too bad there. Take care. Pamela
