Thank you Susanne for Friday Faves. Such a good motivation for an awol blogger 🙂

Lots of fun things happening around A Sparrow’s Home the last two weeks.

1. A very happy birthday celebration at John and Kathleen’s. A delicious meal, birthday treats and best of company! I wish Andrew and Hyekoo could have been there but I’m so thankful to chat with them on facetime.

2. Cuddle time with the newest little member of the family.

Nan_Oscar_mar31_blogSuch tiny fingers – I love the way they curl around mine

3. Keeping the birthday party spirit going – a fun night out this week with the WWW.

WWW_bdayWhen the WWWs take you out on your birthday, you’re always treated royally –  but there is a bit of a price! I think those sunglasses are rather fetching though, don’t you?

4. They say this winter has been the longest and hardest in a generation here on the Island. And I believe it. There are still piles of snow left from the last storm. But, we finally have open water – and you know what that means. A simply perfect afternoon out on the water with my kayaking buddy!

The lighthouse was completely iced in so we launched further down the shore. The kayaks slide easily over the snow. And since we had so much snow this winter,  I was even wondering if we could use them as sleds? 🙂

kayak5_2014There were no huge cakes of ice, like there are some years, but I’m hoping some big ones will float in before the ice completely disappears.

kayak2_2014The water was crystal clear and we could see the underside of the larger ice floes. It made me think of the Titanic 🙂

April_kayak8The sun on my face, the cry of gulls, the gentle rocking of the boat = good medicine after a long old winter!

kayak4_20145. Last, but certainly not least, a little girl turned 2 this week! We’re going to the big party tomorrow. I posted this video on facebook but I’m adding it here as part of our family history. Sweet days!

Thanks for visiting!

with love,

It’s fun watching your grands growing….from the smallest to a two year old. And you know that this is my favorite time of year…because I always imagine myself being in a kyak on the ocean with you…that would be such a pleasurable adventure.

Those littles are the very best people, aren’t they? Congrats on all the birthdays and family fun. I always, always adore your kayaking photos. I’d love to glide along with you.

Birthdays! Yay! The best was cuddling that new little guy. So precious.
Can you believe I’ve never been kayaking? Canoeing, yes. And here I live within 12 miles of the Pacific Ocean…must remedy this one day. In the meantime, I will enjoy your ocean cruising vicariously.

  4. Congrats on the new little family member. Birthdays can be fun times. Wow Kayaking in that cold water, that’s not something I would attempt but it looked fantastic.

oh little Josie, she makes me smile! Happy birthday to both of you. Love the picture of you and your new little grandbaby! You and Faith make me want to take up kayaking. Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous. Mind you, I have no ocean anywhere near me but I’m sure I could make do with a lake.

Oh, Josie singing twinkle twinkle was so precious! A future Paper Lion in the making?

I adore the photos you shared, especially the lighthouse pic.

It does a body good to be out with the sun shining on our faces!

Delightful! Lovely catching up with you and the spring melt. Goodness. How is it that Josie is already TWO?? Your kayaking venture would’ve looked c-c-c-cold but for that brilliant sunshine.

  9. Ellen says:

Ahh…love every photo of your celebrations and exercise! Such beauty and fun.

Wow, what a celebratory week! Such fun!

I’m glad you got to go kayaking. Mu husband and oldest son enjoy it. I have never tried it – it looks relaxing, but I’ve seen too many America’s Funniest Home Videos of older mom ladies trying to get into a boat and falling in the water – and I can’t swim! LOL!

  11. Faith says:

Oh what a fun week!!! First if all. Happy birthday!!! And JOSIE!!! oh how stinkin’ precious is she!!! Cannot believe she is 2!! You look beautiful holding your grandson….he is precious too! And I’m jealous about the kayaking!!!!! My husband doesn’t like getting ours in the lakes until the end of May. I can’t wait to show him your photos!!!

  12. You have had a fun and busy week. The photos of your kayaking trip are so beautiful! Amazing scenery. Have a fun time celebrating your 2 year old granddaughter’s birthday. Blessings, Pam
