Hello everyone and welcome to the first Friday blessing list of March.  It feels so good to say March – even for this winter lover!

Even though the Island is still snow-covered, I felt the warmth of the sun on my face this week and heard the sound of running water. And it might take a bit of imagination, but I know there’s some tiny springtime bulbs snuggled down under that blanket of snow just waiting to shoot their sweet blossoms up toward the sky.

1.It’s been such a full week at A Sparrow’s Home with many blessings counted and many shared.  Last Friday we waved goodbye to our church’s mission team as they headed off on their Guatemala adventure.

After months of preparation in prayer, Bible study, team-building, gathering supplies and fund-raising, they were excited to head out!

We were there to send them off with hugs, kisses and blessings.

“Bye Grampie!”

“Sweet smiles for Nanny”

2. Josie had a fun time  last week with Kathleen’s parents. And now she’s with us –  sitting beside me right now as I finish up the blessing list. Her favourite breakfast? Oatmeal porridge with raisins and brown sugar just like Grampie. Although we’re missing Daddy, Mummy and “Zaiah”, we’re looking forward to five more lovely days together!

3. There were two new birds on our feeder this week. At first glance Roger and I thought one was a Bluejay. Then we had a closer look, and to our total surprise and delight, it was a Bohemian Waxwing.

I wish this was my photo but, unfortunately, my camera was in the car. I was so disappointed. Oh well, I hope he comes back for another visit.

Our second visitor has been here before but hadn’t made an appearance this year. The Red-breasted Nuthatch is such a tiny bundle of energy that it was hard to get a clear shot. He was constantly flitting from the feeder to the tree.

A distinctive feature of the nuthatch  is the way they climb head first down trees and even feeders

Captured in flight. I love when that happens!

4. A very special event happened this week. Who can believe a year has passed since this sweet little boy joined our family?

Oscar-first-brithday❤ HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY OSCAR! ❤

A Teddy Bear Picnic Birthday celebration is planned for when the travellers return. Fun times!

5. If I can’t quite enjoy springtime here on the Island, I can enjoy it via pictures from my UK family. Spring is just beginning in London and swinging in the park is a perfect way to celebrate!

Well, a little girl is patiently waiting for me to finish my Friday Fave so that we can do this together.

I scored a great little stash of storybooks at the second-hand store yesterday. We’re going to have such fun!reading-suess

Thanks so much for dropping in ~ I’m so glad you did!

Happy weekend!

I tried to email you, but it wanted me to sign up for something and was too complicated. What I was going to say is, if you want some really quite simple and successful cake recipes, you could go to my blog, click on recipes tab under the header picture, and then cake.

Oh the little Golden Books…what memories they bring, both from my childhood and from reading them to my children! Loved them and I’ve kept our favourites so that hopefully one day I’ll be reading them to my grandkids!! The mission trip looks very exciting! I’m sure they will be bringing home wonderful stories of seeing God move. And then you can share some with us! 🙂 I was so excited that you saw a new bird, I almost laughed at myself. Hope you get your very own picture of it soon!

I had some grand daughter time this week too. It is the BEST! Praying that your travelers have a God-inspired and God-protected time.

Happy first birthday to your precious Oscar.

Your bird photos are always so awesome. Even though I am not a bird watcher, I am learning a few things from you and coming to appreciate their beauty.

Hi Kathie! When I saw that photo of the Bohemian Waxwing, my first thought was, “Wow! Kathie is wonderful!!” then I scrolled down and saw that it wasn’t actually your pic….but your pictures are ALMOST that wonderful!!! LOL! I ALWAYS love seeing your beautiful photography! My problem must be age these days…so often I forget my camera, too!

I know you’re loving taking care of your granddaughter. I pinned your Seuss saying onto my For the Grandchildren board….hopefully, one day I’ll have grandchildren close enough by to read to! 🙂

Ooh, nice nuthatch photos! We’ve had several nuthatches at our feeders all winter. I love hearing their call in the woods, very distinctive.
