October 29, 2016

It’s Friday (ok Saturday!) and I’m counting blessings!

1. Leafy beauty ~ Blustery winds and rain pelted us this week, with only a few, brief patches of  sunshine. Autumn is living up to its other name, Fall, as the trees are rapidly shedding their leafy splendour.

It seems to me that we lose the bright crimson and orange leaves first, although I don’t know if that’s an accurate scientific observation. Perhaps I notice it because they’re such a brilliant pop of color in the Island autumn palette.

However, all the red shades haven’t disappeared. The blueberry fields in October are a bright blanket of scarlet and orange.

During the sunny spells this week, I grabbed my camera and headed out beneath the deep blue autumn sky to capture the last days of October’s beauty.

2. Another thing of beauty – my beloved’s woodpile. It’s not only a work of art, with its perfectly placed sticks of wood,  it also serves an essential purpose.

I am so very thankful for his hard work in providing warmth and heat for us. And I also appreciate the art of the woodpile (which is now perfectly stacked in his woodshed for the winter), but this is what I really love – a cheery fire crackling in the kitchen stove.  Although we have an oil furnace and a second stove downstairs, this stove is our main source of heat.

Mila appreciates the cozy warmth too.

3. Beach Beauty ~ the beaches are wind-swept and solitary this time of year, but this didn’t stop the Wackies from taking one of our members to her favourite spot for a birthday picnic.

Stanhope Beach, North Shore

It was a chilly day, but the woodstove in the picnic shelter kept us warm.

A delicious home-made tomato soup helped too – thanks Rachel! (Recipe coming soon)

And of course, good company and lots of laughter always warms the heart! (though we missed your bright smile Shirley!)

Happy Birthday Sherry!

4. Creature beauty – on the way home that day, we stopped the car for a rare sight.

A stunning silver fox on the roadside.

Those topaz eyes!

5. Mama Beauty ~ it’s so exciting to be in “Baby Watch” mode! I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere without my phone and I’m paying close attention to every facebook “ping” because we have a  family message thread. We’re waiting, watching and praying for the newest little members of our family to arrive!

Beautiful Dorothy~ 37 weeks with twins!

and beautiful Hyekoo – due in early December.

Hyekoo with Kinsey – soon to be a big sister!

Such blessings from the Lord’s hand! My heart can hardly contain them. It feels like this verse from Luke “A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over!”

My prayer for you is a heart filled to overflowing with His blessings too.

Thanks for sharing my joy this week.

with love,

Kathie, I have missed your blog so much! I hope all is well with you and your lovely family. Your photography was such an inspiration and I loved seeing the beauty of Prince Edward Island. May God bless you greatly and I hope that at some point you may decide to blog again. Take care, dear lady.

Hi Debbie- thanks for your lovely comment! I have taken such a long, and quite unplanned, break from blogging. But I’m planning to return. Thanks for wanting me too! 🙂

Hi Kathie- Thank you for replying and I am so excited that you plan to return to blogging! Enjoy your rest from it- I know how consuming life can be at times- but I know that there will be others besides me who look forward to seeing your lovely photos and reading your beautiful prose again.

I can sense you joy and anticipation and it’s contageous . . . well, maybe because we will be on baby watch in Dec too. So great that the twins have been able to go full term .. at least that is what I would call 37 weeks and counting. Wishing you very happy days ahead!
Also love the colors of fall and your pictures are breathtaking!

  4. Oh I just love to visit your beautiful blog. You inspire me to walk in the wood. I live on an island as well….although we are just one square mile. the smallest town in New England, and we are connected to the mainland by a 2 mile causeway.

Oh Kathie, what a blessing, two blessings! two little ones due before the end of the year!
I love your photos of the beach and the trees. If I ever move, I want a fireplace or woodstove–it might be a deal breaker 🙂

Actually 3 Willow! The twins very soon and our oldest sons child the beginning of Dec!

  7. Oh my goodness…your beautiful family is growing! That silver fox with those eyes is gorgeous! What a great photo catch! The blueberry fields are beautiful and are all the red leaves. We don’t have a lot of reds around here though my trees in the back are an amazing gold!

A wood stove in the picnic shelter? Be still my beating heart. What a comfy atmosphere to have a celebration picnic with Friends and with the ocean so near.

Wow – that silver fox! You certainly are blessed with a variety of wild life. And how cool for us that you photograph it and show us.

Hurray for cell phones. I hope your babies come soon and without any complications.

    Have a great week.

Yippee for baby watch. So nice that those twins are already 37 weeks. Autumn on your island is stunning. Love the artistry of the wood pile, too. Love the expressions that little Kinsey has. Happy weekend to you.

And I’m excited to hear of the baby news in your family with 3 coming soon!! Dorothy must be so uncomfortable! Blessings to those moms and their families as they wait expectantly.
