Thankful

Thankful this week for

1. a tang in the air that is distinctly November.

Crisp, with a slight whiff of wood-smoke.

And so crystal clear – you can see for miles.

2 . the last of autumn’s glory – the oaks. Roger planted this oak tree in our yard about thirty years ago.

I remember saying to him “Someday, we’ll put up a swing in this tree for the children.”, and he answered,”Well, maybe our grandchildren.” That seemed like such a far off distant time in those days – and yet, here we are! I think the branches could handle a swing or two now 🙂

3. a little bit of colour that still remains in the garden. November blooms – what a gift!

4.  a special day one year ago ~  Nov.7th ~ Ivy and Ezra joined our family.

busy, wonder-filled year! Party time this Sunday!

Ivy & Ezra-11 months (thanks for the photo Dorothy!)

5. our dear little dog, Sophie. We had to say goodbye to her this week.

She was part of our family for over 14 and a half years. I’m so thankful for those years we shared together. She was a good dog, a wonderful companion, and so gentle with everyone, especially the grandchildren.

That evening Sarah and I had a long walk along the trail on the Montague River.

How Sophie loved to join Sarah and me for a walk!

She will be missed. ❤

As always, thanks so much for dropping by this week.

Many blessings,

with love and thanks for you,

Hello Kathie, lovely pics and sweet to see the twins! Sad to hear of Sophie, she was a good doggie. November is a sad month, gives us a time to reflect perhaps, before the celebrations of Christmas. Take care.

  2. Hello, Kathie! Thank you so much for your visit to my place last week… and for sharing in the loss of fur-friends. They become our “babies”, our families special treasures. How very sorry I am you lost your sweet Sophie a few days ago. What a sweetie! How sweet are your grands! And what a celebration of life is your BIG oak tree! Beautiful photos of beautiful life moments… So glad to find you here! 🙂

I am so sorry about the loss of your Sophie. We had to say goodbye to our family dog a little over a month ago and I will tell you- tears were shed here. Dogs just have a special way of loving people. Your photography is so beautiful. That header picture is just outstanding. You could create a calendar! I know I would buy one.
Your blog is such a blessing every time you post.

  4. Happy Birthday to Ivy an Ezra! They are so adorable!!
I’m glad you had all those years with your Sophie. I know you will miss her, but you can keep the memories of all those walks by retracing your steps.
    Have a great weekend!

  5. Kathie, So good to see you blogging again!! I didn’t know about the twins!! You are overrun with grandchildren now! Have a great party for them! And, so very sorry to hear about your doggy. Our Pepper lasted for 15 years and was such a member of the family. My Sarah (who is married with two little ones now) sometimes has Pepper still on her brain. When little Andrew is being naughty she’ll be heard to say, “Pepper, stop that!” LOL! She hasn’t lived that one down yet! I know you have many memories of your special dog. So very sorry for your loss.

  7. I’m so glad to see you back for FFF! What gorgeous scenery and photos. Our fall color came late this year and is going fast, but it was glorious while it lasted. Happy birthday to the twins! What fun! It’s nice to have flowers blooming this late – our hydrangea and geranium lasted until just recently, and there are still a few roses blooming, too. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of Sophie. We’ve only had one pet as a family, and she lived about the same length of time. So many family memories are tied up with our pets. It was nice to have a walk she would have loved to commemorate her.

  8. Oh my, I actually cried when I read of Sophie. I think she kinda worked her way into all our hearts through your pictures. I’m so sorry for the loss of your furry companion and friend.

Happy birthday to the twins. The fall colors are lovely. Ours went so quickly this year. I’m just glad I got the leaves raked and bagged in between snow falls.

  10. I always enjoy your Thankful posts Kathie and your photos so beautifully capture your feelings. The second photo of the barn and house with smoke rising from the chimney really evokes the season. It certainly is chilly out there today with that bitter north wind!! I’m sorry about your sweet dog. Such good and faithful companions! Your oak tree is a beauty and how wonderful that you have watched it grow along with your family and now the grands will get to swing from it’s branches! Have a blessed week ahead. Hugs, Pam

    • Thank you Faith. She was a good little dog. She might have even convinced you to become a pets person!! (My husband isn’t much of one either but he tolerates them for Sarah and my sake 🙂
