Thankful

Thankful this week for

1. a tang in the air that is distinctly November.

Crisp, with a slight whiff of wood-smoke.

And so crystal clear – you can see for miles.

2 . the last of autumn’s glory – the oaks. Roger planted this oak tree in our yard about thirty years ago.

I remember saying to him “Someday, we’ll put up a swing in this tree for the children.”, and he answered,”Well, maybe our grandchildren.” That seemed like such a far off distant time in those days – and yet, here we are! I think the branches could handle a swing or two now 🙂

3. a little bit of colour that still remains in the garden. November blooms – what a gift!

4.  a special day one year ago ~  Nov.7th ~ Ivy and Ezra joined our family.

busy, wonder-filled year! Party time this Sunday!

Ivy & Ezra-11 months (thanks for the photo Dorothy!)

5. our dear little dog, Sophie. We had to say goodbye to her this week.

She was part of our family for over 14 and a half years. I’m so thankful for those years we shared together. She was a good dog, a wonderful companion, and so gentle with everyone, especially the grandchildren.

That evening Sarah and I had a long walk along the trail on the Montague River.

How Sophie loved to join Sarah and me for a walk!

She will be missed. ❤

As always, thanks so much for dropping by this week.

Many blessings,

with love and thanks for you,

Counting . . .

I’m counting the happy things this week – the lovely things – the things that made me smile –  the blessings!

1.  Beginning with stunning sunrises.

The leaves are almost all gone – although the giant old oaks around our church are still hanging on.

2. Last weekend was a busy one. We had our Alpha weekend at the church. Around 100 people came out and it was amazing! Excellent teaching, lots of laughter, new friendships and great food! I was on the babysitting team and we had so much fun with the little ones!

3. It just so happened that our annual Gorgeous Gaggle of Girls Get-together was last weekend too! We’ve been friends since elementary school.

Anne was our wonderful hostess. Notice the little decorations? Yes, this is the year for most of us – we turned 60! We just kept saying to one another, it doesn’t seem possible! 🙂

This was our view from the deck of Anne and Danny’s beautiful new home – right on the Montague River where we all grew up.

And here we are! It’s such a gift to be with your childhood friends – laughter, fun, great food and oh. the. stories!! Thanks for such a wonderful day girls!!

4. A favourite time of the week for Roger and me is Sunday afternoon – that’s when we have a little facetime with these two sweethearts. (and their mummy and daddy, of course! :))

Cian age 11 mos

Kinsey – age 3

5. Look who came knocking on our door on Halloween night -a beautiful princess and a dashing pirate!

Josie-5 & Isaiah-3

And I don’t want to forget their mummy – aka “Aerobics Rhonda” 🙂

Sarah delivered some treats in town to a little dinosaur, Red Riding Hood and a Big Bad wolf . (thanks for the pictures Dorothy!)

Oscar-3 Ivy & Ezra almost 1

Oh my heart – these grandbabies of ours. ❤

Such a week! Thanks so much for joining me in all the fun.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

with love,

October’s End

Can you believe we’re almost to the end of October? Our weather has been wonderful –  lovely mild days more like the beginning of September than the end of October! It’s not hard to find reasons to be thankful so I’m joining with Susanne and the Friday Fave crew.

1.   We’ve had a few heavy frosts at night and my window-boxes were looking rather straggly. I cleaned them out for the year but I couldn’t bear to get rid of my hanging baskets. A few blooms are still going strong. In fact, the tiny white flowers are doing better than they did all summer!

My hydrangea bush survived the frosts as well. I love how the petals turn from periwinkle blue to pink, mauve, orange and silver-grey in the fall.

2.  It was so lovely and summery this week, the wackies just had to go to the beach. I forgot my camera but my iphone filled in nicely.

An October picnic! Our rule is “Bring a sandwich and something to share.”

The water was a tad chilly but we’re an intrepid group. 🙂

A walk along the shore does the heart good ~ especially with dear friends!

3. The fall colours are still spectacular!

But we had a warm, gusty wind last night, so they won’t last much longer.

I find it hard to stay in when the sun shines. The fall photo ops are quickly dwindling.

4. Speaking of photo ops, we had a fun time last weekend with John, Kathleen and family.  I’ve only just started the editing process but I had to do this little sequence for the blessing list. I laugh every time I view it.

And then, the inevitable . . .

JIP4

That was the end of that pose! 🙂

5. As October slips away, the days grow steadily shorter. But even though they’re brief, they’re more lovely than ever.

The sun’s rays turn all to golden splendour.

Sophie and I like to walk in the woods on these golden evenings.

Sophie is 14.5 years and still trotting along with me.

She likes to run ahead, then turn and look, as if to say, “You still coming?”  🙂 Such a good old dog!

Thanks so much for joining me again this week. It’s been lovely to hear from so many of you.

Hope you have a wonderful week!
