It’s Friday (ok Saturday!) and I’m counting blessings!

1. Leafy beauty ~ Blustery winds and rain pelted us this week, with only a few, brief patches of  sunshine. Autumn is living up to its other name, Fall, as the trees are rapidly shedding their leafy splendour.

fallen_leaves_road

It seems to me that we lose the bright crimson and orange leaves first, although I don’t know if that’s an accurate scientific observation. Perhaps I notice it because they’re such a brilliant pop of color in the Island autumn palette.

mermaid_haybales-copy

However, all the red shades haven’t disappeared. The blueberry fields in October are a bright blanket of scarlet and orange.

During the sunny spells this week, I grabbed my camera and headed out beneath the deep blue autumn sky to capture the last days of October’s beauty.

2. Another thing of beauty – my beloved’s woodpile. It’s not only a work of art, with its perfectly placed sticks of wood,  it also serves an essential purpose.

woodpile_setting-sun

I am so very thankful for his hard work in providing warmth and heat for us. And I also appreciate the art of the woodpile (which is now perfectly stacked in his woodshed for the winter), but this is what I really love – a cheery fire crackling in the kitchen stove.  Although we have an oil furnace and a second stove downstairs, this stove is our main source of heat.

Mila appreciates the cozy warmth too.

3. Beach Beauty ~ the beaches are wind-swept and solitary this time of year, but this didn’t stop the Wackies from taking one of our members to her favourite spot for a birthday picnic.

It was a chilly day, but the woodstove in the picnic shelter kept us warm.

A delicious home-made tomato soup helped too – thanks Rachel! (Recipe coming soon)

And of course, good company and lots of laughter always warms the heart! (though we missed your bright smile Shirley!)

Happy Birthday Sherry!

4. Creature beauty – on the way home that day, we stopped the car for a rare sight.

5. Mama Beauty ~ it’s so exciting to be in “Baby Watch” mode! I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere without my phone and I’m paying close attention to every facebook “ping” because we have a  family message thread. We’re waiting, watching and praying for the newest little members of our family to arrive!

Beautiful Dorothy~ 37 weeks with twins!

and beautiful Hyekoo – due in early December.

Such blessings from the Lord’s hand! My heart can hardly contain them. It feels like this verse from Luke “A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over!”

My prayer for you is a heart filled to overflowing with His blessings too.

Thanks for sharing my joy this week.

October’s Gifts

Simple everyday joys. These are the gifts that make up our lives. I’m adding them to the blessing list this week.

1.  Family traditions.

First the feast, then the walk,

(note to self – let’s get that in earlier next year. It was almost dark by the time we made it back to the cars!)

and then back home for Thanksgiving pie.

The sun is shining today and I’m heading to the center of the Island with my camera. Rolling hills, long winding red dirt roads and glorious autumn vistas are all waiting for me! Like our famous little red-head said “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers!”

Thanks for visiting!

Always remember . . .

I’m so glad I participate in Friday’s Blessing list!  It’s a time to remember the good, small and big, and to say thank you to the Lord, the Giver of all good gifts. I find the more I look for the gifts in my life, the more I find.  Isn’t that always the way? It’s a wonderful exercise for the soul.  And I love that I keep a record of it here on my blog –  because I have a tendency to forget these moments that make my heart so happy. . .

1. Freshly-bathed, pajama-clad children ready to be tucked, all snug and cozy, into bed.

And  baby brother patiently waiting til bath-time is over – his chubby little legs waving in the air.

2. A little boy’s love for all things with wheels

And his beautiful mama, patiently waiting for his little twin sibs.

3.  Sons pouring their hearts out doing what they love.

A fabulous show!

4.  And Little Miss Brave across the ocean. Only two years old!

(Hear the little “whoahs!” and “Oks” – and the cheery little “Bye!” at the end 🙂 )

5. A wonderful women’s retreat – quiet and peaceful – with delicious food served by a few of the husbands. A treat!

September Blessings

Hi there! And Happy Second Day of Fall!  It’s time to count blessings.

1. A birthday celebration!

sarah_bday_26-copy

We had a family birthday celebration for our sweet daughter Sarah ~ lots of good food, laughter and music! What fun to see the grand-babies join in the family sing-song. And dance with the birthday girl! So much love in the room. It makes my heart happy!

2. Speaking of music – my band boys, Paper Lions, released a new album last Friday. Take it from their mom- it’s awesome! I’m so proud of their hard work and dedication. Here’s a compilation of some of the songs – A Capella. Did you know that A Capella (singing without accompaniment) is Italian for “in the manner of the chapel”? And the band very suitably recorded this video in the bell tower of our church. 🙂

full-colour
You can download the full album on ITunes. Have a listen to my favourite track, “End of July”  – although it’s hard to choose. End of July makes me close my eyes and sway – but Believer makes me want to get up and dance.

Good thing I can listen to them all!

3. In other news, Roger and John, entered a 5K race last week –  the Red Sea Fun Run. It was a fundraiser for Camp Seggie, a great children’s Christian camp here on the Island.

roger_john_race-copy

Our good friends Andy, Abbie, Catherine and Clancey joined them, along with 70 some other runners.

red-sea-runners

The runners had to run across the sandbar to St Peter’s Island, a small island close to Camp Seggie.

stpeters_island

And they’re off!

red-sea-run-start1

The race had to be timed perfectly with the tide, otherwise the runners would be swimming back, rather than running!

red_sea_run_start

There was a bit of wading to do. But the water was warm and it was all part of the adventure!

red-sea-runners3

And here are the intrepid runners, 5K later,  crossing the finish line.

red_sea_run_finishline

We’re so proud of Katherine, who won first place, followed by John, in second place.  Clancey and Roger came in 6th and 9th place while Abbie and Andy, running their first ever 5k race, came in the middle of the pack. A good showing by the Belfast team and a fun time!

4. It wasn’t all racing that day – some little boys were having their own kind of fun!

And up at the main area of the camp, Josie and her friends had (much cleaner!) fun on this!

4. Roger and the boys had some “quality time together” (Roger’s definition), putting his parents’ wood in for winter. I love watching the boys work with their dad – a lot of laughter, good-natured teasing and general fun. They were missing Andrew, who has also thrown in many a stick of wood over the years, not to mention rolling a few round hay bales into the barn.

5. Roger’s mom (87 years old!) was ready with fresh baked cookies for the guys. Josie and I had a lovely visit with her while the wood-stacking went on.

Sweet times!!

Hope you’re enjoying these first days of fall. I’m looking forward to some great photo ops in the next few weeks. A Prince Edward Island autumn is especially gorgeous – says this not in the least bit biased Islander! 😉

Thanks so much for joining me this week!

Many blessings!
